Start with the site
For home, business and institutional owners preparing a rooftop solar connection enquiry.
Start with the existing electricity connection
The consumer account, connection category, sanctioned load and proposed solar capacity are starting inputs for a connection review. Share a recent bill and identify any account-name, ownership or supply changes that are still pending.
Net metering involves measuring electricity imported from and exported to the grid under the applicable arrangement. The treatment of exported electricity, capacity conditions and procedural requirements should be checked for your connection with the electricity distribution company before finalising the proposal.
Keep the paperwork tied to the installation
The proposed layout and electrical design should match the application and the installed equipment. Keep copies of submitted documents, acknowledgements, equipment details and any communication requesting corrections. A consistent record makes it easier to resolve a missing detail.
Ask the installer to define which application support, technical drawings, inspection coordination and meter-related work are included. Utility review, inspection scheduling and account actions involve dependencies beyond physical rooftop installation; agree how progress and outstanding items will be tracked.
Know what to collect at handover
Request the commissioned system details, relevant connection records, monitoring access and instructions for reading the system’s output. Check that the equipment and scope handed over match the approved and agreed arrangement.
Generation shown by an inverter and electricity exported through a meter are different measurements. Solar used directly in the building may reduce imports without appearing as exported units. Reviewing both the monitoring data and electricity bill helps make sense of system performance.
